Murrumbeena is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, that is 13 km southeast of the city's CBD and is governed by the local council of Glen Eira. It is a small suburban community with a significant park area and a strong artistic history.
The name Murrumbeena, which dates back to around 1862, was given to the suburb's western edge and the north-south Mirambena Road. The road's name is thought to have originated from an Aboriginal proverb that either meant "belonging to you," "welcome," or "land of frogs," or it might have referred to an Aboriginal member of the native police. Immediately upon the railroad station's opening in 1877, the spelling was modified to its current form.
