Waterways is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, which is located in the City of Kingston. It is approximately 25 kilometers south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District.
Waterways contains 20% parks and 40% water and is surrounded by the communities of Braeside, Aspendale Gardens, Keysborough, and Bangholme. Additionally, it features a wildlife sanctuary that has been artificially established on more than 46 hectares (110 acres) of land in and surrounding the former marshes along Mordialloc Creek.
The name "Waterways" refers to a number of artificial lakes, lagoons, and wetlands on the estate.
2006 was the projected completion date for the suburb's development. The developer asked Kingston Council for permission to expand the suburb, and was subsequently given that authorization. The development's last phase, known as Argyle, was finished in July 2011.
One resident referred to Waterways as the "Kakadu of the south" since it boasts 105 species of birds that have been identified by the Bird Observers Club of Australia, or PENBOC. Pelicans and black swans can be seen from "The Nest" cafe on the lake by locals and tourists.
