History of Cheltenham

The Cheltenham Inn, which Charles Whorral from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, opened in the area then known as Two Acre Village in 1853, is where the name of the suburb derives from (1852).

After the Cheltenham railway station opened in 1881, the suburb went through a growth surge in the 1880s. After World War II ended, there was a significant amount of residential development, and this expansion continued throughout the 1980s.
