About Clayton

Clayton is a residential and industrial suburb located 18 kilometers southeast of the city center of Melbourne on the Oakleigh to Dandenong railway line.

History of Clayton

In the 1850s, people started using the region for farming. The initial settlement was located where Clayton North is now, on Dandenong Road.

Market gardens rapidly vanished during the 1960s as urbanization and industrialization increased.

The neighborhood was once a part of the City of Oakleigh local council, which is no longer in existence, but in 1995 it was designated as the city`s south-western corner.

The St. Louis County government is located in Clayton, along with some well-known hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments. There is a lot to see and do in Clayton, in addition to, of course, eating and drinking throughout the day.

Additionally, Clayton features the Spring Valley Golf Club, which is home to one of Melbourne`s renowned Sandbelt courses and has one of the best layouts in all of Australia. For all age groups, Namatjira Park has plenty to offer. There is a playground for kids, a covered BBQ/picnic area, a bowling alley, a football field, tall trees, wetlands lakes with waterbirds, a gym, public restrooms, drinking fountains, and both on-leash and off-leash dog areas.
