About Doveton

Doveton, a Dandenong suburb, lies 32 kilometers south-east of central Melbourne. It is situated just east of Dandenong Creek and north of the Princes Highway and is governed by Casey City Council which is previously a Berwick City Council.

History of Doveton

Doveton, which was first a part of the Eumemmerring pastoral range in the 1830s, got its name from a well-known early resident named Captain John Doveton, who stayed there until about 1903.

Doveton was founded in the middle of the 1950s after the State Homes Commission bought a sizable piece of property to build cheap housing for workers at the nearby new companies.

Doveton was converted into a public housing estate to accommodate the post-war population growth brought on by a wave of refugees from war-torn nations and an industrial development in Dandenong.
