About Hallam

Hallam, a suburb in Melbourne, is situated alongside the Princes Highway about 36 kilometers southeast of Melbourne`s city center and 5 kilometers east of Dandenong. It is located inside the area under the Casey municipal government.

Hallam is bordered on the west by the South Gippsland Freeway, on the north by Eumemmerring Creek and Hallam North Road, on the east by a drain easement, and on the south by Centre Road.

History of Hallam

William Hallam arrived in the region in 1856, eventually taking over the post office and running a store and hotel on the Gippsland Road corner where the current Hallam hotel is located. The area became known as Hallam`s Road as it became a gathering spot for drovers and farms. In 1880, a station was built on the nearby railway from Melbourne to Gippsland, and it adopted the name as well.

In the 1950s, Hallam experienced modest growth as a result of Dandenong`s expansion of its housing and industrial sectors.
