About Moorabbin

Moorabbin is a residential and industrial suburb situated in 15 kilometers south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District. It is part of the City of Kingston local government area.

Since the first development took place in the middle of the 1960s, the majority of Moorabbin's eastern side has been an industrial area.

History of Moorabbin

The name "Moorabin" is thought to have originated from the Aboriginal word "moorooboon," which means "mother's milk," as it was allegedly a location where women and children slept while the males went hunting farther away.

The farming and market garden industry grew in Moorabbin. The population of Moorabbin city more than doubled to 65,000 people between 1947 and 1954.
