About Moorabbin

Moorabbin is a residential and industrial suburb situated in 15 kilometers south-east of Melbourne`s Central Business District. It is part of the City of Kingston local government area.

Since the first development took place in the middle of the 1960s, the majority of Moorabbin`s eastern side has been an industrial area.

History of Moorabbin

The name "Moorabin" is thought to have originated from the Aboriginal word "moorooboon," which means "mother`s milk," as it was allegedly a location where women and children slept while the males went hunting farther away.

The farming and market garden industry grew in Moorabbin. The population of Moorabbin city more than doubled to 65,000 people between 1947 and 1954.

Tourist Attractions in Moorabbin

Moorabbin is a great place to visit because of its many well-known attractions, such as Moorabbin Reserve, Karkarook Park, and G.R. Bricker Reserve.

A large collection of aircraft is exhibited at the Moorabin Air Museum. It enables visitors to take seats in the pilot`s seats of a variety of military and civilian aircraft. In its shop, visitors can also purchase books, models, souvenirs, and products.

Visit DFO Moorabbin as well, which has more than 100 stores with discounts of up to 70%, including Oroton, Authentics (Converse), G-Star, Country Road, Mimco, and Witchery, among many others. Schools and Sports in Moorabbin

There are many educational institutions in Moorabin, including the Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, two public primary schools, Moorabbin Primary School and Southmoor Primary School, and the private St. Catherine`s Primary School.

The Moorabbin Reserve and Bricker Reserve both have playing fields that occasionally use as the St. Kilda AFL team`s practice fields. The location for both the football and cricket games is in the Moorabbin Oval area, in Linton Street.
